A friend in Murmansk and I have been having a discussion about Ukraine and Crimea. She asked me if I had read the history of Ukraine and Russia. I told her that I have read the Ukrainian version as was provided to me by a Ukrainian. And then I said…
What I have heard in this country is that Putin is showing the worst pictures of the violence being committed by the Ukrainian people against the Ukrainian military and that Putin is telling the Crimeans and the ethnic Russians in Eastern Ukraine that they need to fear their rights will be taken away. What Putin is not showing are the videos of what the Ukrainian military/police did to the citizens of Ukraine that precipitated that violence.
It is no secret that Putin would like to restore the old Soviet Union. A while back he tried to retake Georgia. There is an oil pipeline in Georgia that is of great importance to the oil companies of the West. It was built by the Army Corp of Engineers and never gets mentioned.
As previously stated, Putin would like win Ukraine back for many reasons. Besides the industrial East, western Ukraine, a major purchaser of natural gas, was the breadbasket of Russia. It is no secret that Russia has used natural gas as a bargaining chip to control Ukraine and the European Union. He has blackmailed them with natural gas for many years.
What if the US could disrupt the cozy relationship that Russia has with the European Union and Ukraine? Note that Chevron and Exxon had just made overtures to Yanukovych to frack western Ukraine. The European Union need only offer Ukraine a membership and that would be more than Putin could bear. Putin took the bait and here we are. And, how did we know that happen? This is where this whole thing gets interesting.
In late 2011, Carlos Pascual was appointed the director of the State Department’s Bureau of Energy Resources, an 85 person bureau, created by Hillary Rodham Clinton, to channel the domestic energy boom into a geopolitical tool to advance American interests around the world (N Y Times). Appointed specifically by MS Clinton, this man was uniquely qualified to head this department and he was just put out of work thanks to Snowden’s release of information.
“Pascual worked for USAID from 1983 to 1995 in Sudan, South Africa and Mozambique, and as Deputy Assistant Administrator for Europe and Eurasia. From July 1998 to January 2000, Pascual served as Special Assistant to the President and NSC Senior Director for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia, and from 1995 to 1998 as Director for the same region, from October 2000 until August 2003, as the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine.
Pascual then worked as Vice President and Director of the Foreign Policy Studies Program at the Brookings Institution where he presided over the creation of the Brookings Doha Center and the Brookings-Tsinghua Center.” ~ Wikipedia
Who else, but Carlos Pascual, was in a better position to point out that Putin would need very little more than the offer of foreign aid to Ukraine from the European Union to set him off. The last thing Putin wants is another “Western Country” on his border, especially one so strategic to Russia. Where after all is the Russian fleet based? Putin had no choice and here we are.
BUT, not quite. Here is a real opportunity for us to separate Russia and her natural gas pipeline to the Ukraine and Europe. The United States wants to frack the hell out of the United States and Ukraine and the oil companies of the US will replace Russia as the primary source. <http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/06/world/europe/us-seeks-to-reduce-ukraines-reliance-on-russia-for-natural-gas.html?ref=world&_r=0>
Russia collects billions from Western Europe and Ukraine in natural gas and look who has figured out how to get their mitts on it… The GOP is screaming that we were blindsided and I say it is all going as planned.
So, here we are back at the beginning, and who is at the bottom of it all—Halliburton and the usual suspects. I AM SO EFFING TIRED OF GETTING PLAYED. Will the real Hilary Rodham Clinton please sit down?
