Peter Fowler

PETER E FOWLER is an independent critical theorist and co-founder of the Academy of Critical Thinking (ACT), a fledgling critical action organization. His areas of expertise are the politics of theology, American Christianity, critical race theory, and the theology & ethics of Martin Luther King, Jr.  He has written and taught original curriculum for critical Biblical studies, the course Racism Reconciliation, and taught a graduate level course on urban ministry.

Mr. Fowler has been engaged in race relations initiatives and social justice struggles throughout his career. He has served as a chaplain in several corrections facilities and with ex-offenders in community-based corrections. He developed the Post Release Ministry, a mentoring program for ex-offenders reentering society. Recognizing that prevention is always better than correction, Fowler developed and directed the Omega Character Academy, an after school enrichment program that has served as a model for numerous other youth programs. He has also worked in community-based diversion initiatives with at-risk youth.

While serving as Minister of Outreach & reconciliation at Omega Baptist Church in Dayton, Fowler developed the Urban-Suburban Partnership. Under his leadership this reconciliation ministry grew from the original three to over 30 participating churches.  While in Dayton, Fowler also was a Facilitator in the Dayton Dialogue on Race Relations and a Teacher in the Young Scholars Program at Sinclair Community College. Fowler also served as Executive Director of the Dayton Christian Center (DXC) where he was an organizer and advocate for numerous social justice initiatives and youth development and leadership programs.

Mr. Fowler holds a BSSW from The Ohio State University, and the Master of Divinity from United Theological Seminary in Dayton. He also studied at McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago. He was ordained through American Baptist Churches USA.
