Understanding Supply Side Capitalism

Part #2 of Understanding Capitalism and Socialism (Part 1) by Joaquin Now that Republicans are starting to talk about restoring Reaganomics, it is a good time to review Reaganomics; i.e., Supply Side Capitalism. This is number two of my technical essays about how the world works. Today we will explore how supply side economics will […]

School cuts and closures prompt student walk-outs

In fact, I would be looking for students to engage in more walk-outs as they find their future managed by elites and their education ravaged by privatizers and the minions that do their bidding. If this happens city by city, state by state, what the privatizers and fixers like Arne Duncan might find is that like Detroit, there are many school districts that are “bad for business.” Now wouldn’t that be nice.

Corporate Greed Gone Global. Toyota Sales & Marketing Spin Control at Congressional hearings today; rings of criminal negligence.

After watching today’s Toyota Hearings with Jim Lentz, President & Cheif Operating Officer of U.S. Toyota; whose primary background, based on his statements today, is Sales & Marketing; There were many things that were glaringly apparent as I watched muttering to myself during the entire hearing. I find it interesting that some say Mr. Lentz […]

Marjah – Winning the Battle; Losing the War

We are now witnessing the first act of the increased US troop level in Afghanistan. The scene is Marjah in Helmand Province. There, the US has sent some 10,000 US troops and an even greater number of Afghani troops. The idea is to break the Taliban’s control over this remote, dusty village of some 35,000 […]

The “Quiet Revolution”: Charter Schools flex their muscles with the help of despicable reporting in the Los Angeles Times

Uncritically accepting that standardized tests have anything to do with learning and teaching is of course the underlying assumption behind the story about charter schools in the Los Angeles Times. Reporters, Landsberg, Smith and Blume accept the premise that students need high-stakes standardized testing one size fits all, in order to become an educated person in today’s society. Of course their definition of an ‘educated person’ is in keeping with calls to “compete with China” and beef up a failing capitalist system beholden to the trans-national corporations. But their bias doesn’t stop their.

Do You Even Care Anymore?

I do not know much of Somalia.  They have been prominently Muslim dating back to the beginning of Islam.  It was a main economic hub for centuries.  The region has been muddled over by foreign governments who drew boundaries to fit their needs, without a clear understanding of the people or their needs.  Various governmental […]

2009 - The Year in Review

In the early morning hours of Jan. 1, 2009, a white transit cop in Oakland, California, shot and killed Oscar Grant, a young black man. Grant was lying face down on a train platform with his hands handcuffed behind his back at the time of the shooting. The cop claimed he thought Grant was going […]

New Well Funded Anti-Abortion Group Assaults Berkeley and other California college campuses

Seemingly out of nowhere a new anti-abortion group is running a national campaign on college campuses. The images this group present are frightening, disturbing, and infuriating. The Center for Bio-ethical reform CBRMidwest@cbrinfo.orga seemingly unheard of group, appeared on Berkeley’s Sproul Plaza early Monday morning with photos and leaflets to confront students with what it calls its “Genocide Awareness Project (GAP). This […]
