Humans aren’t born racists, it’s something we’re taught. Seven foundations have spent $42.6 million over the last ten years to make you an Islamaphobic, anti-Arab racist. Donors Capital Fund, Richard Mellon Scaife foundations, Lynde & Harry Bradley Foundation, The Russell Berrie Foundation, Becker foundations, The Fairbrook Foundation, and the Anchorage Foundation/William Rosenwald Family Fund have paid Frank Gaffney of the Center for Security Policy, Daniel Pipes at the Middle East Forum, David Yerushalmi at the Society of Americans for National Existence, Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch and Stop Islamization of America, and Steven Emerson of the Investigative Project on Terrorism to make you into a Muslim-hating, anti-Arab racist.
The Islamaphobic think tank: Emerson, Gaffney, Pipes, Spencer, and Yerushalmi travel the country lecturing and testifying before state legislators, warning of the impending Sharia Law threatening America. This is a non-existent threat, yet more than 100 anti-Sharia laws have been proposed in Congress and in 30 state legislatures. While the direct threat of religious rule is false, the distrust of Arabs and Muslims has been reinforced. When the Islamaphobic “experts” mention that most mosques in the U.S. sympathizes, even harbor, Islamic terrorist, the indoctrinated believe them for fear sells. Never mind there are only 3 million Muslims in the U.S., as compared to 8 million Jehovah’s Witness. They act as if all of these 3 million Muslims are terrorists. This is the image $42.6 million can promote. Liberal racists say stuff like – all Muslims might not be terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslim. Snappy phrase and completely untrue. In the U.S. alone white power racists commit infinitely more terrorist acts and we’re not even talking about state terrorism like drones. Show me a person in a movie this century who is both Muslim or Arab and not a violent nut case. $42.6 million buys a lot of racism and this racism is spread through corporate media outlets like Fox, Atlas Shrugs, The National Review, Washington Times, and Christian Broadcast Network. Organizations behind Islamaphobia include the Eagle Forum, the American Family Association, ACT! For America, Stop Islamization of America, state Tea Party movements, and the religious right. Multi-billionaire Sheldon Adelson has added his money to the cause, stating publicly that Palestinians are “an invented people” and regretting his service in the U.S. army instead of the Israeli. He proudly announces that his son has joined the Israel Defense Force and not the American Armed Forces.
Islamaphobia in America runs deep. Last year high school Principal Vanden Heuvel told me that the use of the words Muslim and Palestine on a flyer constituted hate speech. The context was some of the cosponsors of Rabbi Gottlieb’s talk on peaceful reconciliation in Palestine/Israel. The cosponsors in questions were the Muslim Institute for Interfaith Studies and the North Coast Coalition for Palestine. None of this is hate speech, yet it is interpreted as such by Islamaphobes for it challenges Israel’s right to colonizes Palestine. The Islamaphobic network equates anti-Semitism with lack of support for Israel’s war of conquest. These are not the same. Anti-Semitism, hating folks because they’re Jewish, is anti-intellectual bigotry. Supporting the rights of both Israelis and Palestinians to live peacefully within legally define borders is not.
