As thousands of people gathered on the 20th of November, outside of Fort Benning, Georgia for the annual protest to shut down the US Army training center dubbed by critics as the “School of the Assassins” for having trained some of the worst human rights violators in Latin America, El Salvadorean armed forces have now taken to the streets of El Salvador in conjunction with the national police.
Reflective citizens need to ask what the celebration of Veterans Day is really about. If we are no longer celebrating the cause of peace, and instead are celebrating the military, what exactly are we celebrating?
