Out of the park buddy. This is literally and symbolically the essence of our troubles in seeking to live as free women and men.

"Once again, how do we know that our votes are counted if they are only counted in secret on machines? "

We're talking about Virginia, birthplace of the Constitution (Mason) and the internet (Telenet). Virginia used viva voce voting until the Civil War. You knew your vote was counted because you spoke that vote and saw it tallied.

But now, we've got a state in which the worst has happened - machines are autonomous. In the 2005 Deeds-McDonnell recount (400> vote difference), the recount commission enforced Virginia law that supposedly banned the hand counting of Diebold OpScan forms. The machine tally button was simply hit again with the same process as the election counting invoked. Garbage in, garbage out. Ironically, those OpScan forms were mostly in urban areas, predominantly black, where McDonnell ran 20% ahead of his clone Republican candidate for governor.

Amazing and instructive. We're living in a rigged game and can't get unplugged.
