As a former Nominee to the Nobel Peace Prize, I was, naturally, asked what do I think of Barack Obama’s win. A firstly say: had Obama not been President of America, he could have never won the Peace Prize. Being the President of the USA makes Obama the best man in the globe to organize and promote wars, worldwide. Of course, like all Presidents and other politicians, he will say that he is working for Peace. In a way it is true, as, without provoking wars in the first place, the Prsident could not work for Peace. The main truth though, is that Obama cannot go against all the weapon manufacturers, Banks and other financial institutions that supported his campaign to become President. Unless we change the economic system, that is a national and global economy that is not based on the weapon trade, neither Obama nor any other President could ever work for Peace.
If they really attempted it, they would be assassinated. This is why I was surprised by the message posted by “Suzanne Hoeksema on the “irresponsability of arms traders”. Suzanne doesn’t seem to bear in mind that the owner of a weapon factory has to pay his staff and has many overheads that can be dealt with, only and exclusively, if he sells his products. If a legless man enters a shoe shop and wants to buy 10 pairs of shoes and has the money, the shoes will be sold to him. If a deag person enters a piano Department and wants to purchase a grand piano for 100.000 thousand dollars, provided he pays for it, the piano will be delivered to his home the next morning. You cannot say the shoe and the piano seller are irresponsible people. They are, simply, businessmen. Alfred Nobel, great promoter of disarmement, must be turning in his grave.
