I absolutely agree that a certain degree of skepticism is healthy and necessary; I do not think one should believe everything he reads, sees, or hears. On the other end of that spectrum, however, I feel that it is self-destructive to doubt all of what is purported as reality. Extreme cynicism and skepticism leads to loss of morale, loss of hope, and loss of faith in the human spirit. When an individual begins to believe that everything that surrounds him is a lie, all sense of purpose is also lost. I am not at all implying that I advocate the “ignorance is bliss” view, or that perpetuating false truths will justify the means of happiness. I am also not suggesting that one system of government or laws, that one faith or ideology, or that one theory is better than the other. Again, it is important to do everything one can to educate herself/himself, to weigh in all supposed evidence, and to draw conclusions and positives from all systems and beliefs thereafter. Morrone says, “Unless people stop burying their heads in the sand, we’re heading for dictatorship and permanent war…We have the appearance of democracy on a national level and some local democracy. The current system, which has worked for people for half a century, is going to lead us to end of life as we know it.” I just refuse to believe that if I do not accept every conspiracy theory out there, and if I do not anticipate ulterior motives of all government agendas, that I am not a critical thinker, and that I am blindly contributing to a future “dictatorship and permanent war”. While I agree that we, as a country have committed some unthinkable atrocities, and continue to do so, I do not agree that the United States is the only country to blame, or that it is the total formula for the continued oppressive, human legacy of imperialism. Finally, I think that a certain paralyzing paranoia that some fringe theories bring about can also stymie any progress when genuine, goodwill is also questioned. This leads me to question the implications made by another article on here: “Haiti—The Empire Strikes Again”, which I also did not agree with entirely.

So, what is the point of reading and critiquing such alternative sources of media? I completely understand that the purpose is to seek differing views, to respect other views, and to possibly shed light on alternate realities, as a result. Likewise, progress does not take place until we question where and who we get our information from, or what agendas back such information. I am a high school teacher, and in terms of classroom application of alternative media sources, I should give my students the opportunities to awaken to other possibilities of truth and to, ultimately, decide for themselves what they believe. Likewise, offering students real opportunities to obtain various sources of information, various viewpoints and agendas, and to analyze experiences different from their own is what truly promotes individualism and increases school’s potential to be a “great equalizer”. This is underlined and ultimate purpose of finer education, and I fully understand that I am an agent of that purpose.

The bottom line is, however, that everyone wants to spin a story, or a “truth”, and everyone wants the privilege of authority to say what “truth” is. Fringe theorists are no different from this human tendency, and I feel as though Terry Morrone exemplifies this repeatedly throughout his article when he points out his intellectual status as a Professor of Physics, thus giving credibility to his voice, and later states, “Much finer minds can be found on the internet or in books. If you want to learn about a topic, such as the financial crisis, use an internet search engine such as Google. You can get the opinions of Nobel Prize winners and prominent intellectuals instead of establishment lackeys on the TV.” Morrone embodies his own implied message that with status comes power, with power comes authority, and with authority comes manufactured credibility with which one can manipulate the minds and wills of others. I am frustrated when reading these articles because I am left to feel as though “truth” will always be abstract and manufactured. If this is so, what is the point of life? Where do we draw the line? I agree that beneath the surface, some “realities” are utter lies. On the flip side, however, I am an optimist and believe that some realities may be taken for face value. I liken this idea to an individual who is disgruntled by numerous failed relationships. After losing faith, becoming completely jaded, and rejecting all prospectively positive significant others based on the fear of repeating same mistakes or experiencing the same kind of pain, he ultimately never finds a mate with whom he can be happy. The conclusion I draw from this article and "Haiti: The Empire Strikes Back" it that it is crucial to question your well-being, to question the well-being of the world, and to avoid rallying around the flag like an automaton. But, occasionally, it is just as important to take a leap of faith in your leaders, in your country, in your peers, and in your world.

This a very good article. Thank you very much for such an insightful piece Mr. Morrone.
As I agreed with the others commenting here about the need for such a piece to be in the eyes of more people, I sent it to OpEd News for re-posting to a larger audience, but they have become very particular/weak with putting up things concerning 9/11. We will see if they allow it.
I have also sent it to 911blogger.com, but it may only be seen under the blog section as it may not be considered a news piece.
It is common for other sites to pick up articles from theses places.
I gave full credit to Mr. Morrone and Daily Censored for this piece.

Yes! Terry Morrone, wonderful essay. The world was brainwashed on 911 and there after. Millions of our brothers and sisters in the Mideast are suffering murder, torture and plunder and these lies are what fueled the start of the war and they help continue the Imperialist war on the world. People in the USA have a special obligation to stand up to these crimes. And President Obama perpetuates the lies by telling US citizens and the world that you better get on board with the idea that Muslims attacked the World Trade Center as Bush’s crimes are now his crimes.

I am still burning that Democracy Now! did one hostile interview with David Ray Griffin and that was it concerning alternative theories to the official 911 theory. And what's up with all the 'Counterpunch' denunciations of the 911 Truth Movement?

The job of honest media is to break this sort of false flag, brainwashing propaganda and dig up the real stories. The Gulf of Tokin never really happened as the mainstream media presented tales invented by the US government to start the American war against the people of Vietnam. No weapons of mass destruction found in Iraq. Still, many forces even on the left of the political spectrum don’t find the evidence for the Bush regime’s orchestration of the attacks credible. If the White House can get away with such attacks and the mainstream media brainwashes people’s minds, then what would keep the US government from doing such attacks again?
