Fear of Things To Come: How Far Will Things Go As Racial Tensions, Economic Rage and Crime Rates Soar?

William John Cox exposes chilling facts about the hard times the world is experiencing as economic structures collapse. Increasing crime, tent cities, hunger, even in the citadel within the borders of the US homeland. Americans are passively accepting draconian laws, like the Patriot Act, Government surveillance and wholesale eavesdropping on US citizens, preventive detention without trials, the highest incarceration rate greater than any other nation and torture on a worldwide scale. What can we expect from President Obama? That he would be more respectful of individual rights than President Bush was? We can get an idea about the nightmare world Obama is creating and presiding over by considering his recent request for the Supreme Court to reverse it’s 23-year-old decision prohibiting police from questioning a represented defendant until his lawyer is present. Obama has already sought to restrict the right of prisoners to test genetic evidence used to convict them. He invoked the “state secrets” privilege to block essential discovery in civil lawsuits. William Cox asks just how far are people prepared to go as racial tension, economic rage and crime rates explode? Cox chills readers with sentences like: “The US is on a prison building spree constructing “security housing units” which are,

in many aspects, a return to medieval dungeons in that prisoners are confined in small concrete boxes with steel-plate doors. Prisoners live in silence, except when they scream, and they are “extracted” from their cells by teams of guards in combat gear armed with stun guns.” As the economy worsens in the United States will prisoners be forced to work to pay for their own incarceration like in Depression era chain gangs which resorted to whippings, tying prisoners to posts or locking them in “sweat boxes” to compel hard labor? Is the United States going to follow China’s example where hundreds of people are executed every year? William John Cox ends his piece by saying: “Scared yet? Fear is not a bad thing, unless you let it paralyze you. Do all you can—before it’s too late.”
